Dreamed up by art collector, Dimitris Tsitouras, The Tsitouras Collection hotel is certainly a treat for the eyes. Showcasing his expansive art collection, the place hosts work from some legendary names, including the celebrated Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso. If you can tear your eyes away from the art, the views here are phonomenal; perched on a clifftop, the hotel overlooks Santorini’s renowned caldera.
The hotel is set in a characterful 18th-century mansion, which is still abound in Greek charm today. Whitewashed walls and arched ceilings house antique furnishings, polished woods and period light fittings - all appointed in an unassuming, unpretentious manner.
Better yet, the island retreat has only five apartments to pick from, ensuring a wonderfully tranquil ambience. With so much to allure, it’s little surprise that many famous names have sought refuge here, from fashion designer Gianni Versace, to Hollywood star Hugh Jackman.
Private dining is available at the hotel, specialising in Mediterranean fare and freshly-caught seafood. Alternatively, Fira is packed with family-run eateries and gastronomic hubs - the staff will be more than happy to share their favourite places.
A great breakfast is served in the mornings and is included in most room rates (see rate detail below).
The five apartments have all been individually designed with much attention to detail and their own cherry-picked selection of artwork. Antique furnishings add to the charm, as do the whitewashed walls and arched ceilings and doorways. Most apartments also offer spectacular views out over the caldera. Some rooms are suitable for pets; please notify hotel ahead of arrival (extra charge may apply).
Soak up the views from the refreshing infinity pool, or laze on a lounger with a glass of something chilled. If that’s not relaxation enough, an extensive array of specialised massages and beauty treatments are available, which can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own apartment.
Located in the cliffside village of Fira, the hotel is well-placed for exploring. Cubiform buildings, independent shops and cosy taverns line the cobbled streets, and the Archaological Museum and Museum of Prehistoric Thira are both within walking distance.
If it’s watersports your after, scuba diving, kayaking and snorkelling are just some of the activities available nearby.
